We are delighted to announce that we have received the Hidden Gem award for 2020-21 as part of Visit England’s ‘Visitor Attraction Accolades’. The award recognises attractions across the UK which offer innovative, interesting or unique tourist experiences. This year, the Quaker Tapestry Museum is one of only eleven attractions to be given the Hidden Gem award nationwide and the only one in the North West region.

Introduced by Visit England in 2014, the Visitor Attraction Accolades are available to members of the Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme who represent a wide range of tourism experiences across England, from museums and galleries, farm attractions, historic houses and gardens to churches, cathedrals and country parks. They are supported by a network of highly trained and experienced assessors who advise on improving and promoting the quality, accessibility and sustainability of their offer.

The four Cumbrian attractions honoured in this year’s awards are:
• Muncaster Castle, Gardens & Owl Centre, Ravenglass – Best Told Story
• Quaker Tapestry Museum, Kendal – Hidden Gem
• The Beacon Museum, Whitehaven – Best Told Story
• The Lakes Distillery, Cockermouth – Gold
