It is with pleasure that we announce the opening of the Quaker Tapestry Museum from May 6th, 2026. The Museum will be open for visitors on Wednesdays, 10am -4pm until September. A number of volunteers from the local Quaker community and Kendal will be there to greet visitors and serve as enthusiastic guides to the tapestry and Quakerism.
Admission will be free to all, though we welcome any donations.
We look forward to welcoming new and returning visitors through the coming months, and encourage people to bring any small-scale textile-based handcrafts (such as embroidery, quilting, knitting and crochet) they wish to work on in the communal area of the exhibition room.
As the UK’s only accredited museum dedicated to Quaker social history, the Quaker Tapestry Museum is home to the Quaker Tapestry, one of the worlds largest community projects. The museum is a beautiful exhibition space, where an extensive needlework collection and archive objects are displayed alongside the tapestry itself. The museum has a programme of special exhibitions, which often includes objects on loan from other organisations, exploring local and national histories of Quakers.
