John Woolman
< back to panels
The American Quaker John Woolman lived out his very firm beliefs. The panel shows examples of his concerns about cruel treatment of people and animals. In the 1750s the appallingly cruel slave trade was part of everyone’s lives and that included Quakers. He travelled to Britain and persuaded Quakers there to work towards its abolition.
