With the founding of the Quaker colony of Pennsylvania in 1682 many persecuted Quakers, especially those in Wales left to seek a better life. Many Meeting Houses were later closed including Tyddyn y Garreg, under the slopes of Cadair Idris, where the annual Quaker Meeting for all of Wales was held in 1685.
