Daniel Wheeler
< back to panels
Quaker agriculturalist Daniel Wheeler spent 14 years draining the St Petersburg marshes. British Quakers had visited Czar Alexander I and this had led to Daniel’s employment. The panel also beautifully depicts an incident on Daniel’s later voyage to the South Seas. A pod of large fish surrounded his ship during rough weather and broke the force of the waves until the storm abated.
