The growth of Quakerism in Canada from 1800 onwards was mainly thanks to the pioneering work of Alma Dale. NeeKauNis (place of friendly meeting) became a gathering place for Canadian Quakers. In the 1890s they raised £16,000 to bring 7,500 Russians, from a persecuted sect, to join them. The children’s picture, bottom right, shows the school orchards’ scheme in Mexico, funded by Canadian Quakers.
