Aotearoa – New Zealand
< back to panels
New Zealand Quakers in 1989 added to their name, Aotearoa (‘land of the long white cloud’), the Maori word for their country. This was part of their commitment to the treaty of Waitangi, with its promise of partnership between the settlers and the indigenous Maoris. The panel, beautifully embroidered by New Zealand Quakers, includes native trees and birds.
