Zebra on her travels

One of our volunteers, Tony, recently went on holiday to beautiful St Ives and took Linnet, the Mbizi (African for zebra), with him. Linnet is one of a range of knitted animals available from our gift shop and online shop, handcrafted in Zimbabwe by Gogo Olive.

Gogo Olive was set up in 2008 as a response to the huge unemployment problem in Zimbabwe (which stands at around 97%), at a time when conditions in the country were particularly difficult.  As well as creating employment for local women the aim is to give them hope as they have the opportunity to use their craft skills to build a future for themselves and their families. Knitting requires basic materials and can be done anywhere and anytime, which suits the lifestyle of a Zimbabwean woman! Read more about Gogo Olive

“I loved creating my embroidered panel. This was by far the most enjoyable art project I have ever completed and I am so pleased with my final piece.”
