FREE event – Kendal Flood Tapestry Workshop – Silk Painting and Stitch.
8th July 2017
FREE Family Friendly Community Workshop to create a Flood Tapestry.
Flood Tapestry Community Workshop on Saturday 8th July 2017 (2pm – 4pm) at Quaker Tapestry Museum, Friends Meeting House, Stramongate, Kendal. All Welcome.
This is a FREE family friendly event (all children to be accompanied by a parent or guardian). All art materials and tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.
The ‘Kendal Flood Tapestry’ project, to create a wall hanging and stitched story of the Kendal Floods and the resilience of the community, is a project to record the events that occurred when Storm Desmond hit Kendal in December 2015 and much of the town was flooded.
Anyone can contribute to the community project regardless of their crafting or artistic ability as the stories people have to tell are just as valuable to this project. We aim to audio record recollections of the strength of our community in the aftermath of the flood so please come along if you have a story to share.
This will be an informal and fun workshop suitable for all the family, run by textile artist Donna Campbell. We will use silk paints and fabric paints to add colour to the tapestry, it’s an easy and fun skill to pick up for both young and old so please come along. It will be an uplifting, hopeful and rewarding experience for all.
It would be good to know who is coming along so do let us know but do feel free to just turn up at 2pm on 8th July. We’d love to see you.
If you can’t make it on 8th July but would like to be involved please look at our other FREE workshops happening on Sat 2nd Sept and Sat 7th October . Alternatively please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning 01539 722975 if you wish to discuss the project further or register your interest.
