Access for All at the Quaker Tapestry

Mobility Scooter to borrowThe Quaker Tapestry Exhibition and Tearooms are situated on the ground floor of the Exhibition Centre, with level step free access from our Stramongate entrance, and full access for wheelchair users. We positively welcome individuals and groups with specific needs and staff are available to offer a welcome introductory talk to groups of school-age children or adults alike.

We have dedicated parking for visitors with disabilities. If notice is given by telephone in advance of a visit, we are happy to reserve a parking place in our on-site car park for visitors with mobility problems and a member of staff can be on hand to offer any assistance required.

Mobility Scooter in Gift ShopWe have a long-standing arrangement with the ‘Shop Mobility Centre’ in Kendal to have a mobility scooter on site for visitors with mobility problems to use within the Exhibition Centre.

Assistance dogs are welcome in the Exhibition.

We make a conscious effort to ensure that any new displays, projects and developments are designed to be accessible to everyone.  The South Lakeland Society for the Blind was involved in the development of the scripts for our new exhibition audio guides and introductory film, which give a vivid description of the panels for visually impaired visitors.  The headphones and hand held audio guides have their own volume controls.  We also have an induction loop system for the hard of hearing.

If you have any questions regarding access to the Exhibition Centre for those with specific needs please telephone 01539 722975 or e-mail info@quaker-tapestry.co.uk we are here to help.
